March 20 is only the first day of spring. In New York, is also Macaron Day, where at least 11 bakeries throughout the city will be handing out free macarons.
As noted www.macarondaynyc.com, macarons are the "muffin again." What is so tasty macarons? For starters, the classic French pastry has become less forgiving than a muffin, but the taste of caramel, coffee, ginger, pistachios, raspberries are sweet enough for any solution of sugar.
First Annual New York Macaron Day coincides with the fifth edition of the Macaron du Jour, Paris. So far, participating stores in Manhattan include Bouchon Bakery at Columbus Circle and Macaron Cafe, a little sweet in the Garment District is selling its namesake for the treatment of $ 1.95 per piece.
You know you've found a good macaron when sweet candy colors are crisp on the outside but soft and chewy on the inside (Gotta love that butter ganache or filling).
Details: Tell the bakery that you are there to participate Macaron days. One free per customer macaron, quantities are limited.
I know it's hard to leave the bakery without being tempted by all the extras.
